HAPPY AUGUST!

This time, last year, I was talking about my plans to fight my annual “Late Summer Slump”, which is generally the time of year where I finish a big workout rotation, then slack off almost completely until my New Year’s commitment starts.

The LSS usually makes me incredibly lazy, since I’m basically idle, and along with that comes a little weight gain. It’s never that big an issue, because my body frame/bone structure allows me to carry up to 30 extra pounds without others noticing. Thing is, though, I know I’ve gained weight, and my clothes don’t fit as well. I also don’t feel nearly as good as when I’m working out. Lethargic. Working out regulates my mood and makes me feel good!

So, last year, I successfully fought the LSS with the help of TurboFire. I lost the weight I infamously put on during college; which no other program had ever chipped away at! And I’ve since completed another round of TurboFire (combined with ChaLEAN Extreme), with just as good results!

I actually finished the TurboFire/ChaLEAN Extreme hybrid program a couple of weeks ago and almost didn’t realize it! Those 20 weeks flew by. And, by the end, I was subbing in runs from my own Couch to 5k podcasts in as well! Which is all I’ve been doing for the past 2 weeks, as a sort of “recovery” period.

So what do I do now to fight the 2011 LSS? I had to give it a little more thought this time around, for a couple of reasons:

1) All I’ve done for the past year is TurboFire. I absolutely love it! I can’t get enough of it! But, I don’t want to kill my joints doing it nonstop with no breaks. It’s pretty high impact, even if you modify it, which I’ve yet to do. So, I think I need to take a cycle off before even thinking about starting up again. Don’t get it twisted, though. I will still sneak in a workout or two. I won’t be able to help myself!

2) 115. What is 115? That is the weight that was printed on my driver’s license when I first got it at age 16. I never changed it, and now my actual weight perfectly matches my license. I don’t necessarily need to lose any more weight, at this point. (For reference, I’m 5’8″) I just want to maintain and continue to tone. My abs are really coming into form, and I want to continue with that. I am currently in the best shape of my adult life!

So, having weighed those two factors rather heavily, I decided I’d do another round of just ChaLEAN Extreme. But I’ll be modifying it to fit my needs.

I’m going to sub in my Couch to 5k (and beyond?) running for all the cardio in the plan. Also, this time around, I’ll use resistance bands that Donna/Toni use instead of dumbbells. This will be the first time I’ve done the program w/ bands, and I wanted to give it a shot. Might make it a little “new”, ya know? And the last modification is that there will be no weekend workouts. My love for football in the fall (which I wait foreverrrrr for) trumps all. So the heavy lifting/work will take place Monday – Friday.

That’s my plan right now. I don’t like shying away from strength training in the fall (like I have been), but I don’t want to work too hard because it leads to more weight loss (even though I only average 1-2 per month) and my mother keeps saying that I’m “wasting away” LOL.

Now, come November 1st, I’ll have to do this all over again because I’ll be done with ChaLEAN Extreme, but then I’ll probably be able to experiment with a couple more Jillian Michaels DVDs before I kick off the New Year!

Ahhh, there’s nothing more satisfying than having a plan!
