I like to think of myself as an early-ish adopter of technology, but I’ve been dragging my feet when it comes to wearable tech.
I’ve been eyeballing various Fitbit offerings for a while, and there’s always one thing or another that I don’t like. It usually comes back to the fact that I wear an actual watch (not a smart watch), and I don’t want a bulky tracker on my wrist. That also means I won’t be wearing a smart watch, because who wants to wear two watches? Not me!
So, I stumbled upon a wearable fitness tracker that’s a RING! It tracks my activity, steps, heart rate, sleep, and syncs with an app, just like Fitbit. It will basically give me a snapshot at my day and that’s really what I want from a tracker. I don’t need instant updates or the community/social aspect that a network as large as Fitbit has. I’m not going to get into competition with anyone, and frankly, I don’t need to. I’m working on me!
This ring is called the Motiv Ring. And it sounds and looks super dope.
I started this post about a month ago, and since then I’ve actually purchased, received and started using the Motiv ring and I LOVE IT! So, let me break it down.
When you buy it, Motiv sends you a ring sizing kit. The ring is only offered in whole sizes from 6-12. At first I was concerned, because with fashion jewelry, I typically wear a size 5 ring. But that’s precisely the reason for the sizing kit. The plastic rings included are the same size as the Motiv ring, which isn’t exactly the same as a fashion ring because of thickness and the inclusion of tech inside. I tried on the 6 on my left middle finger and wore it for a day or so. It was a perfect fit. So, then I went to the website to complete my order with the perfect ring size for me.
Two days later, I had my ring and set up was a breeze. Motiv had me download their free app, put the ring on one of the included USB chargers, and sync it up with my account. It took less than 5 minutes and I was on my way!
I quickly found out that while I may spend more time in bed than most, I don’t sleep as well as I thought. That’s good to know. I also found out that the Acive Minutes goals that Motiv has set for me have been easily attainable. (It starts at 30 minutes per day and adapts from there) Because I got this ring, I also re-committed to working out again. I’ve pretty much been idle for the better part of the past year due to sheer laziness. But I’ve been back on my Couch to 5k runs as well as fresh, new round of ChaLEAN Extreme. The ring communicates with the app and detects when I’m active, be it running, lifting weights, or just chasing after my cats in the backyard. Wanting to make that active goal every day, and get my heart rate up is super motivating. Perhaps that’s why it’s called the Motiv ring? 😉
I’d also like to put a positive word in for Motiv’s customer service. I managed to lose one of the chargers within the first couple of weeks. My cats like to get in the way of everything I do, and one of my chargers disappeared. I figure it’s got to be in my bedroom somewhere, but I just can’t find it. (Oh, and you can’t purchase these chargers as an add-on. It’s a propriety technology, with magnets.) I contacted the fine folks at Motiv and they sent me a replacement charger for free! I was willing to pay for one or three or four because having backups is something I’m all about, but they threw a free one in the mail in a matter of days. Salute!
So I’ve been active for a little over a month now. I feel better during that time of the month, I have more energy, and just feel good about myself. And it’s all due to this stylish little fitness ring that I wear on my finger.
I wasn’t sent this ring in exchange for a review or as part of any promo. Y’all know when I’m all about something, I hop on my blog and post a rave review. I bought this $200 ring and it’s been worth every penny.
If you’re looking for an alternative to a fitness band, maybe check out Motiv Ring? And if you love it as much as I do, jump in the comments and let me know!
