I Love the New Millenium

Really VH1?

You couldn’t wait until the 1st decade was in the books to roll this out?

I’m not going to lie. I loved me some “I Love the 70s” as well as the 80s and 90s version of the weeklong special. And while I enjoyed the 90s the most (because I was old enough to remember everything they talked about), I still thought they made it too soon.

So now, they’re airing “I Love the New Millenium” prematurely. We aren’t even through 2009. Stupid move, IMO.

Way to jump the gun, VH1.

When Mother Nature Interferes with Fitness

I was thrown off of my running this week and will not be able to recover before I go out of town. I had planned on doing my runs Mon-Wed-Fri, as usual. I head to Omaha on Saturday. However, Mother Nature had other plans!

I waited around most of the late afternoon/evening for these storms to hit the road, but they never did.

So, I headed to the basement to do the Turbo Jam Fat Blaster DVD. It’s cardio that features intervals, so I thought that would be closest to the interval training I’d have been doing with the Couch to 5k plan.

If you’re familiar with Turbo Jam, you know that the high intensity interval — which usually last anywhere from 60-90 seconds — is called the “turbo”. And you know it’s starting because a siren sounds. The Fat Blaster workout features nothing but turbos. The funny part tonight was that when one of the sirens went off, a tornado siren started going off as well. That messed me up because I cracked up laughing. What a coincidence!

Anyway, I’m running out of days to get things done before I leave! I’m going to work on the Week 5 Couch to 5k podcast, but I can’t promise I’ll get to Week 6 before I leave. So I may be going on “hiatus” until I return from Omaha after July 7th.

Novak, What Happened?

My boy, Novak Djokovic, was upset today at Wimbledon!

I definitely didn’t see that coming! I mean today’s match was just the 3rd round and he’s ranked #3 in the world! But as we’ve all seen before, upsets happen and on any given day…

Man, I really enjoy watching him play. This definitely diminishes the remainder of the Wimbledon entertainment. Not that it really matters. I won’t be able to watch any next week anyway. I’ll be immersed in all things swimming at the Olympic Trials.

SWV & En Vogue & TLC? OH MY!

I think I’ve died and gone to heaven! The BET Awards hooked it up proper tonight by bringing back the classic 90s R&B girl groups, SWV (Weak), En Vogue (Hold On), and TLC (Waterfalls) to perform. I grew up with those groups and so glad to see them perform.

I don’t know if this was Alicia Keys’ or BET’s idea, but to whomever put this together, a million thanks!

Watch the video below. Alicia Keys performs her latest single first before bringing the groups out one-by-one.

RIP Lisa Lopes

Couch to 5k – Ghetto Week 4 Mix

I didn’t have time to properly make a podcast this weekend. I was out of town all day Saturday and was essentially a waste of space yesterday.

I didn’t even pick out songs until the afternoon and I didn’t bother recording voice commands this week. No time.

So I looked for songs that were around the length I needed, and if they weren’t I cut them so they were the right time. It was approximate, but it works. That’s why I’m referring to it as “ghetto”. It’s not because the music is ghetto, per se. It’s still mostly hip-hop.

For example, the playlist starts with Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me”. So that means your warm-up walk is designated for just that song. When it ends, and Eazy E’s “Gimme Dat Nut” begins, you start your 1st run. Everytime the song changes, you switch either from a run to a walk or visa versa. When you hear Timbaland & Magoo’s “Luv 2 Luv U”, you should be walking and that’s how you finish your workout. Pretty easy, right? I hope so.

Here’s the full playlist:
1. Nelly – Ride Wit Me
2. Eazy E – Gimme Dat Nut
3. Mystikal – Danger (Been So Long)
4. Pink – Get This Party Started
5. Xtina, Pink, Mya, Lil Kim – Lady Marmalade
6. Prince – Pussy Control
7. 2 Live Crew – Hoochie Mama
8. Ludacris – You’s A Ho
9. Basement Jaxx – Red Alert
10. Fatboy Slim – The Rockafeller Skank
11. Timbaland – Luv 2 Luv U

I’m not sure if I should even bother adding this to my XML podcast list. I’m afraid subscribers will get confused since there aren’t vocal cues. So I’ll just add it to this post and hope others stumble upon it. Or should I still add it and edit the podcast title so it states there are no vocal cues? Thoughts?

At some point, I’d like to do a proper Week 4, but if I do, it won’t be anytime soon. I’m backed up and about to leave town! In other words, don’t hold your breath.

Candace Parker Dunks!

I continue to be impressed with Miss Candace Parker. She dunked this weekend, becoming only the second WNBA player to dunk in a game. The other dunker? Her teammate Lisa Leslie, whom I also love.

I was approved by TheFanlistings.org, so I need to get busy with that!

Here’s the clip from ESPN:

Where Did The Weekend Go?!

So it’s very late Sunday and I still haven’t finished making the Week 4 podcast!!

I’m further behind than I’ve ever been! I wonder if I’ll be done in time for a run tomorrow evening!

AHHHHH!

And on top of that, I’m going to double and maybe even triple up this week. I’m going out of town Saturday to cover the US Olympic Swim Trials, so I’ll be gone for a while. And since I’ll be “working” on reporting the goings-on of that sporting event, I won’t be running nor creating podcasts.

I’ll keep everyone updated! Hope I can keep up!

Transitioning to a Size 4

I know they say that when you work out, progress should be measured with inches and how your clothes fit. I was always like “yea, yea, yea” about that until recently.

I don’t work out to lose weight. If I lost much, I’d prolly be underweight! My goal with working out was to get toned, fit, and develop healthy habits to continue in my life.

I do occasionally weigh myself, but only like once or twice a month. I’ve been a solid 130 for I don’t know how long. Throughout that time, I have been seeing muscle definition, which I love! And we’ve been told over and over that muscle’s density is higher than fat, thus weighing more.

I was sort of in between sizes 4 and 6 last year. In some stores, I was a solid 6, while in others I was a 4. I’ve been wearing some of those 6s and they are loose! Not loose as in I can’t wear them anymore, but there is quite a bit of extra space in there that wasn’t there last year! And now my 4′s fit like my 6′s did last year.

So, it looks next time I go to the mall for new clothes (which could be a while, lol) I’ll be purchasing a smaller size!

Why I Don’t Use Firefox

It’s not the reason you think. Trust me!

If you are a Firefox user, open it up and hit CTRL+O. Then open up IE and do the same. The difference in how each of those shortcuts works is why I don’t use Firefox.

When I worked at the Ohio State University Hospital, I was let in on this keyboard shortcut to visit websites. I became hooked and haven’t looked back! That was 6 years ago.

It’s so much easier to get to my bookmarks using that method. I visit the Oh No They Didn’t! blog on LJ a lot. I gave it the bookmark “ontd”. When I open up that broswer shortcut and start to type in ontd, press enter, and it takes me there!

Firefox unveiled their new version 3.0 today. I wonder if anything’s changed. I’ll have to check it out. I’m not holding my breath, though. I do have Firefox installed on my computer, but only to test how my work looks on other browsers. From some of the reviews I’ve read, I don’t think I’ll be making the switch on a permanent basis.

Being on the comp as often as I am — I’m a web designer — I’ve fallen into a routine. Firefox gives me the same prompt, but actually wants me to open a file, not a website. I can’t get down with that, so that is the only reason I haven’t migrated. I’m a creature of habit. So until they fix that, I will stick with IE and use AdMuncher to keep my browsing safe.

Another Duffy Post

More pimpage for Welsh singer Duffy. I love her music and she’s so cute that I wish I could fold her up, put her in my pocket, and take her home. Lucky for her that I won’t get the chance.

She going to be doing some US dates this summer, with the closest to me being Lollapalooza in Chi-Town. I would consider driving there to see her, but not braving the Lollapalooza crowds. No spank you.

So, Duffy, I’m going to need you to do your own headlining club tour or something, kthx.

For the rest of you who may enjoy Duffy’s music, she will be performing on Leno Thursday. She’s already graced that stage, back in late April, but is scheduled for an encore this week. I guess it’s not a repeat or else it would be listed as one. I wonder what she’s going to perform…new single? Yay! Meanwhile, her Ellen Degeneres performance from May 16th will re-air on Wednesday. Friday, Duffy will perform live on MTV’s new show FN MTV; a show where they actually show music videos and other topics directly related to music. I know, I know. I’m shocked too!

And because I forgot to upload it, here’s her TRL appearance from last month. Enjoy!
