What’s Next for Couch to 5k?

A 5k to 10k podcast set.

Well, y’all have been working on me a great deal since I stopped making the initial round of c25k podcasts back in September. Quite a few have inquired about whether or not I’d be continuing training with the goal of completing a 10k race. I still don’t know if I will or not, because the running window of warm weather months may not allow it, but I will make some podcasts that build on the 5k and get you ready for a 10k.

msugrad_99 directed me to a website with breakdowns for 8k training. Upon snooping around the DJ Steve Boy website, I did find podrunner intervals for a 10k, so I think I’ll go with that.

I don’t think I should start at Week 1. I’m assuming that people downloading my podcasts will have already completed the plan up to a 5k race, and are just wanting to build on that base. So, I need to figure out which week to start at on. Suggestions?

Also, I know nothing about BPM. I didn’t even know what it was until I Googled it! I didn’t take it or anything else into account when doing the c25k podcasts. All I know is warmup, run, walk, cool down. So, that’s how I will approach the next set of podcasts. I gotta keep it simple yo!

Don’t expect to see anything right away, but I could have the first one ready in the next month or so. I’m already on the lookout for songs that I haven’t used yet. And don’t worry, I will be providing more 80s podcasts. They just don’t make music like they used to!

    How about coolrunning.com’s training to finish a half marathon? I am training for one at the end of June and am on week 7 of the 5k training. It fits together!
    I have ton’s of music if you’re interested in 70s – 90s (I know….old old), but our tastes are pretty similar. I’ve loved your podcasts. Email me if you’re interested.

    Old stuff is the good stuff! I’ll look into the CoolRunning plan too. After all, the Couch to 5k program I was using for my podcasts originated there.

    The podcasts are terrific. The choice of music is so much more motivating than what I had been trying to use before. As soon as I finish the 5K program, I’ll move toward longer races. Keep up the great work!

    Hey Suz can you tell me how to make a podcast I have some voice commands already downloaded to a podcast and all I need to know is how to add the music to it? TIA

    You need an audio editing program in order to layer the commands over the music. I use SoundForge.

    Suz-your podcasts for C25K made it doable for me:) In fact, I'm so good at pacing now that when I race I listen to your last podcast and can tell my speed based up where I am in a song at the mile marker:)

    I am doing gateway to 8k, but ignoring the bpm stuff and just paying attention to the tones to signal change from walking to running…..

    I hope you make some new podcasts soon-I really don't like the DJBeatsmith one I'm using now
