I Started PiYo Today

So, I may be writing this post on Tuesday (East Coast Time), but until I actually go to sleep, it’s still Monday in Suz’s World!

Here’s my Cliff’s Notes backstory: I’ve pretty much been idle (fitness-wise) since July, due to some health issues. They’re weren’t super serious, but your girl is paranoid, so I stopped all my workouts. Everything is now under control and, after meeting with my doctor last week, I feel confident enough to get back to working on my fitness!

But taking 6+ months off is a huge deal! Especially since the I think that’s the longest I’ve been idle in over a decade. I can’t remember ever taking a break that long. So it was a daunting task to start contemplating getting back in the game. One thing is for certain, I am going to take my time getting back in shape. One of the worst things I can do is try to do too much, too soon, and end up injuring myself.

To sort of ease myself back into a routine, I chose Chalene Johnson’s PiYo workout from Beachbody. I’ve always loved me some Chalene, and feel that a low impact & hybrid Pilates/Yoga workout is a great place to start. My longterm, goal is to get back to my soulmate workout, TurboFire, but for now, baby steps is the move.

So, today was Day 1, where Chalene walked me through the terminology, much of which I was already familiar with, having done many of her workout programs. But it felt great because it was like a long stretch that my body needed. Two thumbs up. Looking forward to getting after it tomorrow, and modifying as needed!

Seeing Results With Les Mills Pump!

NOTE: Keep in mind that I’m no longer a Beachbody Coach. Not that that affiliation ever really affected my reviews on any of their programs. Truth is, I’ve had great results with BB programs, and I’ll continue to suggest them to anyone who asks me for a recommendation.

So, I’m about a month into Beachbody’s home version of Body Pump, called Les Mills Pump, and I’m absolutely loving it! Usually, this time of year, I’m doing a hybrid version of ChaLEAN Extreme couples with c25k training and/or TurboFire. But then LMP was released and it peaked my interest.

In ChaLEAN Extreme, the emphasis is on lifting extremely heavy and slowly, but only for about 12 reps per exercise. Les Mills Pump focuses on using lighter weights, but you’re doing a ton of reps. The instructors frequently reference the “Rep Effect” which pushes your body to fatigue, increases your heart rate, and creates the change in your body.

It’s not a new concept. I have several Jari Love videos that are from the same school of thought. They just never really held my attention enough to do them regularly. (Also, like I’ve said before, I enjoy 90 day programs with a set schedule) But somehow, my body seems to really be responding to LMP. Moreso than the past year or 2 of ChaLEAN Extreme. I think that’s probably because it’s kind of used to the CE workouts and needed a new challenge. Regardless, I’m hooked!

New TurboFire Workouts On The Way!

Chalene Johnson announced today that new TurboFire workouts are on the way! Here’s what you need to know!

1. I am no longer a BeachBody coach (just didn’t work out, nothing bad to say about it), so my excitement for TurboFire is real! I still do the workouts regularly; including today.

2. There’s a more “beginner” workout for those not as familiar with choreography or terminology. I refer a lot of friends/fitness pals to Turbo Jam over TurboFire because it gives an easier base to move on to TurboFire later. This workout, “Fire Starter Class”, eases you into TurboFire at a slower pace.

3. Then there are 2 HIIT workouts (Low HIIT 20 Class and Low HIIT 25 class), but they are low impact. AKA no jumping! If you knees and joints have required you modify the HIIT training and workouts in this system, these are for you. And Chalene claims they are just as effective. SCORE!

4. There’s an ab video, Ab Igniter Class, as well. Chalene wants you to think of it more as a core workout, rather than just abs. This also focuses on your back as well as inner and outer thigh.

Last Day for Free Beachbody Coach Sign-Ups!

Beachbody lured me into the fold back in November when they started the free coach sign-up promo period. It was supposed to end on December 31st, but the wonderful Carl Diakler extended it one more week for those who may have been overwhelmed over the holidays, or those who had just set their New Year’s resolution and want to jump in early!

Starting 2011 With A New Fitness Challenge: P90x

Last year, my fitness journey included Turbo Jam, Couch to 5k training, ChaLEAN Extreme, and TurboFire. And, I’ve been hinting at it for a while, but I am now officially committing to P90x to start off my 2011 Fitness Journey.

I was debating starting the year with a modified round of TurboFire + ChaLEAN Extreme, and hit up P90x after that. But I decided to stop delaying things and take the plunge, so that’s what I’m starting today. My commitment should be applauded even more because today’s my birthday!

I expect P90x to be a challenge both physically and mentally. I’ve mentioned before how much my attention span sucks, and that was the driving force behind my constant delaying in doing the program. I don’t know what it is, but after about 45-50 minutes, I subconsciously become extremely aware that I’ve been working out a while. I then worry about my focus/form for the remainder of the workout.

TurboFire has a few workouts that I thought would push my attention span, but it turned out to not be an issue! The workouts are so fun that I didn’t even notice how long I had been working out! I hope Tony Horton will be able to do the same for me because I’m a little worried! I’m sure, after a few days/weeks, it’ll become second nature, but until that happens, I hope it’s not that large of a hurdle.

Like My New Facebook Page!

I made the decision, a while back, to separate my personal Facebook profile from my online work and blog activities. Some people like to combine the two, and then once the personal profile is outgrown, graduate to the Like Page.

I’m taking a different path. I want to preserve my personal profile and keep it for connecting and keeping in touch with people I at least am acquaintances with, family, friends, etc.

All of my nerdery (yes, I made that word up) including, but not limited to, my blogs, web design work, podcast creation, or Beachbody business will go straight to my Fan page and not my profile. Granted, some things posted on my personal profile will be cross posted onto my page, but not visa versa. Make sense?
