People say many things about Melissa McCarthy, most of which don’t matter to me. I worship at the church of Melissa McCarthy and she can do no wrong in my eyes. If she is starring in a movie, guess who is going to see it, no matter what? THIS GIRL!
So, I was beyond excited when she spruced up what I thought was the saddest lineup of Super Bowl ads in years, or maybe ever. Thank you, Melissa and KIA!
So, below is my pick for favorite Super Bowl ad.
And my runner-up was courtesy of Buick and Cam Newton.
Looks like the car ads had my heart this year. Whodathunkit?
Y’all. One of my all-time favorite shows is coming back to TV. And not just in the form of re-runs, which I routinely watch. And also not as a forced reboot with new actors. No, my friends. That is not what’s going on here.
Will & Grace is returning to NBC! The original cast, creators, director, and showrunners are all back on board to give us a 10-episode season that will be absolute must-see TV for me.
Words really can’t describe how excited I am, so here’s a GIF.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with the Summer Olympic Games. It’s almost like I retreat into a bunker for 2 weeks, and I shun all human interaction until the Olympics are over. Your girl is dialed allllll the way in, y’all!
But my excitement has been a little tempered this year. I’ve never been a fan of the IOC. They are corrupt and stay awarding the games to host cities who have no business hosting an Olympics. That issue aside, the issue with the Zika virus (and high profiles athletes dropping out), as well as the contamination in the water (what about the open water swimmers?!), and the security situation are all leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
I want to be my usual excited self for the Games, but I really am concerned for the safety and well-being of the world’s athletes. At this point all I can do is pray all will be well and the Olympics will go off without incident.
So, I’m easing my way back into things with some of Olympic Trials taking place this weekend. As I type this, I’m watching the Women’s Gymnastics Trials. And, come Sunday, I will be reunited with Swimming as their Trials get underway.
By the time I’d only had my Roku 3 for a couple of days, it had already changed the way I watch TV. And for that, it was love at first sight!
About a month later, here are my full thoughts on the device.
We have Time Warner Cable in our household. I’m not a fan of them, but they do a couple of things really well; 1) their mobile app and 2) unlimited data. I took particular notice upon learning Roku included the TWC App in their channel store. Chromecast didn’t. Apple TV didn’t. And, to my knowledge, Amazon’s Fire TV also did not.
A little background: I have basic cable in my room. And Time Warner takes a couple additional channels away from “basic” every year. Usually if I want to see everything our subscription has to offer, I have to relocate to a TV with digital cable, or whip out my iPad. I’m a lazy individual, so that hasn’t been an ideal situation.
I don’t know how I didn’t write this post last fall… actually, I do, but better late than never, right?!
Last year, I was reading through my “Entertainment” Twitter list and saw a story about a Marc Cherry dramedy called Devious Maids, which was being Executive Produced by Eva Longoria. Longtime Desperate Housewives fans, like me, recognize both of those names, so I was immediately intrigued. I learned that ABC passed on the show and Lifetime picked it up. I was all “Lifetime? Really?” but vowed to check out the show when it aired.
Boy, am I glad I followed up on that promise! I absolutely loved the show! It filled the void that Desperate Housewives left in my soul. It was part Wisteria Lane and part telenovela and I was addicted! I enjoyed the hell outta that show and was sad when it started winding down.
But as that happened, Lifetime started showing promos for another new series called Witches of East End. I don’t what it was about that show, but I was super interested in watching that as well. Did Lifetime suddenly discover the recipe for getting me addicted to TV shows?
Well, I watched Witches of East End, too, and loved it! I was immediately sucked in and practically held my breath while I waited to hear if it was going to be renewed for Season 2. (It was.)
Devious Maids fans, all across the country welcomed the show back this past Sunday. It also marked the first episode Eva Longoria directed. And during the premiere, we got our first look at Season 2 of Witches of East End, which is advertised as “coming this summer.”
Take a look:
I cannot wait!
Thank you, Lifetime, for bringing more shows into my life! I have trust issues with the major networks, as they constantly display their itchy trigger finger when it comes to deciding a show’s fate.
What are your guilty pleasure shows? Is there a network that’s stepped up to the plate for you?
I was scrolling through my Pages feed on Facebook a few days ago when I saw the news. Because I “liked” the page long ago, I see the updates, whenever they happen to post them, and I squeed upon reading the news that one of my favorite shows, “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team” would return to CMT for a 9th season. (By now, you know I’m a huge fan.) Hell yea!
CMT has also greenlit a ninth season of Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team, the network’s longest-running reality series.
Music to my ears! Now, hopefully the season is a little longer (like it was for Season 7) where we got to see the girls in many episodes after they’d made the team. I thought that was just as fun as the competition to make the team itself.
