It’s not what you’d think! And by today, I mean Saturday. I write most of my posts late at night 😉
Saturdays are pretty lame as far as television programming goes. But today was a treat for some of the sports I follow. I got to watch Candace Parker tear it up again as the LA Sparks won their 3rd game of the season (out of 4). A shout out to her as she was named to the US squad headed to Beijing for the Olympics. I’m not surprised. And no one should be. She’s clearly one of the best all-around female basketball players in the country and she’s backing that up on the court day in and day out.
I also go to watch some Track & Field, which doesn’t get nearly enough tv time. Today’s featured meet was the Reebok Grand Prix from Long Island. I love me some Allyson Felix. Homegirl has been tearing it up and I can’t wait to see what she does this summer!
Both Track and Basketball are dear to me because I competed in both sports when I was in high school. Politics and stupid coaches forced my exit from basketball. Essentially, they didn’t know what they were doing and I wasn’t willing to “play the game”. That then allowed me to turn my attention to Track. My main events were the 200, 800 Free Relay, and long jump. After only running track for 2 years, I actually earned a scholarship to run in college, but I turned it down. It wasn’t to a school that was academically challenging enough for me. After all, WashU is the #12 best national university in the country. You can’t really compete with that if you want a rigorous academic environment. I almost ran during college, but decided against it. Do I wish I would have? Sometimes. But I think I turned out all right! 😉
