ChaLEAN Extreme: Week 6 Addendum

'Time to get extreme, baby!'

'Time to get extreme, baby!'

This is gonna be a quick one! But I was curious as to whether or not I had lost any weight. I don’t regularly weigh myself. I forget about it most of the time. Since it’s not a goal, I don’t really pay that much attention to it. But I was bored today, and wondering, so I stepped on the scale. I hadn’t weighed myself since I started eating more, and turns out I’ve lost 2 pounds since then! At my weight, it’s damn near impossible to lose pounds, so I was surprised! Maybe there’s something to the whole consuming more calories deal after all 😉

Oh, and I moved up to a 20 lb dumbbell for my overhead tricep extension today. Really, really, proud of that!!

Eating More Calories Is Hard!

I’ve been at it almost a week and I have to say, pushing more food into my daily intake is turning out to be difficult!

All my fitness mags tell me to keep a food diary and I’ve always meant to, but never have…until I started this new task!

To help me keep track of what I am (and am not) eating, I downloaded the free and amazing Lose It! app for my iPhone. I can set up a profile for my body which includes my height, weight, age, and goal weight. Inputting your goal weight is what helps the app calculate how many calories you should be consuming. If you’re trying to lose, you’d eat slightly less than if you were simply trying to maintain your current weight. You also enter your exercise for each day, which subtracts from your calories because you burned them off.

I Learn A New Thing Every Day!

So, I was curious as to how many calories I should be consuming as I continue the ChaLEAN Extreme plan. I’m pretty sure I should have done this last month, when I started, but better late than never!

The internet offers quite a few tools and equations to calculate that “number” of calories you should shoot for each day. It takes into account your age, height, weight, sex, and how active you are. Most of these tools output numbers that you need if you are looking to maintain your current weight. I’m never really looking to lose weight. All I want to do is tone. If I happen to lose weight, as a result, then fine. But that’s never been a goal of mine.

I tried a method that required I use my own calculator and got a range of 2401.84 – 2573.4. I say range because I wasn’t sure if I was considered to be “moderately active”, “very active”, or “extremely active”. I just call myself a regular exerciser! Since “very active” is in the middle, I tend to use that classification. Any way you look at it, though, 2400 calories is a lot!
