Getting a Little Nervous!

2008 Columbus Half Marathon/5K

2008 Columbus Half Marathon/5K

So I run my first 5k in just about 9 hours from now. So what am I doing awake still?

You can’t teach a dog new tricks! It’s before midnight for crying out loud! I don’t usually go to bed before 3. Yes, I will go before then tonight, but I just can’t right now. My body won’t let me. I’ll get up in enough time to eat some Oatmeal and wake my body up, run my race, then come home and go back to sleep! My mom will be there to cheer me on as well.

After rise from my nap, I may treat myself to a trip to the mall. Who knows! Depends how I do! I’ve read up on quite a few articles about how a first timer should prepare and run their race — emphasis on finishing, not time — so I’m not going to stress any time. Having said that, I’d still really like to be sub-30 minutes.

So wish me luck! I’ll let y’all know how it goes when I get done!

I Think I Found My 5K Race!

2008 Columbus Half Marathon/5K

After months of searching, I think I may have found the 5K where I’ll make my racing debut!

The first one I saw was the Columbus Crew 5K. That really jumped out at me because you get a ticket to a Crew Game (MLS soccer) as part of your goody bag. My family and I have been saying we’d like to get to a game since the team came to Columbus many years ago, but haven’t. That would be a perfect excuse to go! However, the drawback is that it’s this Saturday, August 16th. I don’t think I’m ready and the $40 entry fee is a lot just to see if I’m ready to race. But who knows! I may decide on Friday that I want to go ahead and try! Stay tuned!

So, I decided to keep looking and stumbled upon the Columbus Half Marathon/5K on August 24th at Dublin Jerome HS. Dublin is a lot closer to where I live than Columbus Crew Stadium. Score 1 point. The date of this race gives me another week to solidify my training and finish the final week of the Couch to 5k training program (I run Wed-Fri-Sun). Score another point. My parents already said they’d come and support me during this run. It’ll be easier for all in Dublin, so there’s another pro. Finally, the entry fee is cheaper!

I think I’ve found my 5k! And I’m not going to stop at that one. Chances are that I’ll run another one in September and October with the goal of trying to improve whatever my time was at each event.
