Talking Grammy Nominations

I just watched the CBS Grammy Nomination special and I have some thoughts.

First of all, I like the idea of having this concert accompanying the announcement. And it’s in primetime too. Good way to drum up interest in the Grammy Awards. However, I kind of liked having that announcement in the morning by many of the nominated artists.

I’m so, so, so glad that Duffy got a “Best New Artist” nod. I was pretty sure she’d get that one, but it was a relief to see her name announced. I kind of thought she’d get a “Record of the Year” nomination, but it wasn’t in the cards. She got her second nod in the “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” category. No brainer there. That’s a stacked cat too, with Adele, Sara Bareilles, Leona Lewis, Katy Perry, and Pink. I like all of those songs! Rounding out Duffy’s nominations is “Best Pop Vocal Album”.

I’m also extremely excited about Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown getting nominated for “No Air”. I still love that song. It was the perfect pop track and if I chose the winners, that would be it for “Best Pop Collaboration”.

I love the nominations for “Best Dance Recording” because my girl, Lady GaGa got nominated, as well as Rihanna for “Disturbia”. Love both of those songs. Madonna’s “Give It 2 Me” got the nod over “4 Minutes”, which I thought was strange, but maybe it is more dancey to others?

Chris Brown got a “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” solo nod for “Take You Down”, which makes me LOL. I’m indifferent about the song. It’s all about that video, ‘nawmean? 😉

OneRepublic getting a nod in the “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals” category is perfection. And I don’t care what anyone says, they needed Timbaland. No, they didn’t need him in order to make good music, but they needed him to get that music and their name out there.

Still don’t get the fascination with Coldplay. Of course they got a shitload of nominations. As did Weezy, and I don’t get that either.

Mariah Carey needs to dress more age appropriate. I’m tired of her dressing like she’s 21. Time to grow up, Mimi. Christina Aguilera can SANG. She doesn’t sing. She SANGS. Notice the distinction. BB King’s performance with John Mayer was great. John boy should do this genre of music full-time. It suits him much better than his whiny pop/rock act. He’s got some soul and should let it out!

Duffy Announces US Headlining Tour

Duffy covers Spin Magazine

Duffy covers Spin Magazine

So she does listen! Duffy has announced a US headlining tour that begins starts October 9. She will also do select dates opening for Coldplay.

I’m a little annoyed that her lone Ohio date is with Coldplay. I just want to see Duffy alone in a club show setting. Those are the best shows, IMO. The intimate show is way underrated if you ask me.

So not only will I have to shell out close to 4x times more $$ than a club show to see her (the good seats are $90!!), I’m also going to have to fight the Coldplay fans for tickets and they probably aren’t even going to show up for Duffy’s set. GRR! And seeing as how this tour stop was originally scheduled for July 6, I won’t be able to find anything good because the good ones are likely already gone.

So, my Duffy drought will continue.

I also wonder how many times she’s going to do shows in Chicago. Come on, Duffy! Spread the love! There are other cities in the midwest that would love to have you!

Duffy is currently on the cover of the SPIN Magazone (August 2008 issue). Read her cover story online.

Here’s the full list of Duffy’s dates:

10/9, San Diego, CA (Humphrey’s)
10/10, Los Angeles, CA (Orpheum)
10/16, Vancouver, B.C. (Orpheum)

Also, look for a Duffy performance on the Late Show w/ David Letterman on September, followed by another TV appearance during CBS’ Fashion Rocks on September 9th.

Yay, More Duffy on TV

I wish Duffy would have had tour stops around more of the midwest other than Wisconsin and Illinois, but since she didn’t schedule any, and has already left the country, I’ll just sit back and enjoy her TV performances. Last Friday, she performed “Mercy” and “Warwick Avenue” on CBS’ Early Show:

Duffy Goes Gold!

Since I’ve been pimpin’ her on here for quite a few months, I figured it was time for another Duffy update!

I just found out that she’s been certified ‘Gold’ in the US for shipment of 500,000 copies of her debut album Rockferry. You should cop that as well, if you haven’t already.

And to celebrate, here’s the video of her performance of “Warwick Avenue” on Jay Leno last month. “Warwick Avenue” is her new US single. Enjoy!
