Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Instagram?

delete-instagram

I love Instagram. I’ve been a member for almost 2 years. Back in the “iPhone only” days. Those were better days. Simpler days. I knew the Facebook acquisition of Instagram was a bad thing, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Have you see what the new TOS (which go into effect next month) call for?

“You agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.”

Are you ok with that? I’m not sure I am. While I love Instagram, this move, along with the decision to start displaying ads may force me to delete my account. When Twitpic updated their Terms of Use back in 2011, they were similar to this. I stopped using TwitPic.

If you are a concerned Instagram user who is considering deactivating your account you have options. Many are recommending Flickr, who has been around a helluva lot longer than Instagram. They also respect your copyrights. And if you’d like to save your pictures that are already online, try a service like Instaport.

There is still another solution. You could publish your own “filtered” image on your own website. If you are sure to watermark your images, no one can take them and republish them without everyone knowing its source. And if you couple those moves with a different social media account, like Pinterest, it can earn you tons of page views, and in some cases, increased income.

UPDATE: It appears, after all the outrage over the new Terms, that Instagram has done an about-face on them. At least for now. I’m sure we’ll all continue to monitor the situation, but essentially they said “Our bad, y’all. We didn’t mean it. Please stay!” Will you?

WANTED: A Bad Ass Tumblr iPhone App

Can someone please make this happen?

There are a million sweet iPhone apps; and I probably own 90% of them. They’re packed with extremely useful features that I’ve become extremely accustomed to.

It’s gotten to the point that when I open the Tumblr app, I expect to see those same features. But then become instantly disappointed, because they aren’t present in any Tumblr apps. I don’t know if it’s because the API doesn’t allow it, or simply that the really talented app devs just aren’t interested, but I wish that’d happen.

What am I really missing? There are overall Tumblr improvements I’d like to see, which would then, hopefully transfer over to any apps that are developed and/or updated.

My Facebook Page’s Vanity URL Is…

http://www.facebook.com/suzdawg

That I used “suzdawg” should surprise no one! I try to keep my usernames uniform across all social networks and tools. I’d been meaning to set a vanity URL for my page, for a while now, but crossing the 100 fans (THANK YOU!) threshold has really lit a fire under my arse!

So, it’s done! Update your bookmarks, if need be. And if you haven’t “Liked” me, now is the perfect opportunity! 😉

P.S. I give almost all my running podcast update via this Facebook page.

Like My New Facebook Page!

I made the decision, a while back, to separate my personal Facebook profile from my online work and blog activities. Some people like to combine the two, and then once the personal profile is outgrown, graduate to the Like Page.

I’m taking a different path. I want to preserve my personal profile and keep it for connecting and keeping in touch with people I at least am acquaintances with, family, friends, etc.

All of my nerdery (yes, I made that word up) including, but not limited to, my blogs, web design work, podcast creation, or Beachbody business will go straight to my Fan page and not my profile. Granted, some things posted on my personal profile will be cross posted onto my page, but not visa versa. Make sense?

So, without further ado, please go “Like” me. It’s my birthday! No, really. It is! That would be the ultimate birthday present! Thanks, everyone!

TIP: For easy access, you can also click the little Facebook icon on the right sidebar.
