It’s Pumpkin Season!

Hey everybody! Guess what season it is? Yuuuup, it’s PUMPKIN SEASON!

I look forward to fall every year simply because I get to overdose on limited edition pumpkin offerings. Last year, I went to a Pumpkin festival that is held annually here in Central Ohio. It’s taking place again this week, but I haven’t 100% decided if I’m going to go or not. (I’m definitely going to see Carrie, though!)

If I don’t make it, I will have had enough other Pumpkin-flavored products to completely tide me over for the season.

As pictured above, I’ve already gotten my hands on some Limited items from Pop Tarts and Eggos. The Pop Tarts are literally so good, that next time I get paid, I am stocking up on them. My current box is good until July 2014. I think I’ll be ok hoarding a few more boxes. And the Eggos are delish as well! But I won’t be stocking up because I know how to use Bisquick to create my own using Libby’s Pumpkin or a related item that’s available year round.

I haven’t grabbed a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard yet. I went at the end of September and they told me it’d be back in October. Well, it’s October!

I’ve heard Trader Joe’s is a treasure trove of delicious Pumpkin items, including Pumpkin Bread Mix, Pumpkin Butter, Pumpkin Ravioli, and even Pumpkin Macarons! So I will have to make a special trip and see for myself. (Besides I need more Cookie Butter)

I’ve been looking for the Limited Edition Yoplait (Light) Pumpkin Pie yogurt, but I’m not sure it really exists. And I think this despite seeing advertising and pics of it on Twitter. They even have a special page for it on their website. I’ve checked all the available stores in my area and nothing! I live in the 15th largest city in the country. I figure it should be around here somewhere, right? Well, someone on my Facebook page, directed me to the Yoplait’s product locator page, and voila! Now I know where, in my city, to go to get these. I’m going in a few hours!

Anyway, I’m enjoying my fall, so far, thanks to my #ALLPUMPKINEVERYTHING lifestyle. Is anyone else as obsessed as I am?

‘The 2012 Circleville Pumpkin Show’ In Pictures

In my quest to attend more local-ish events (seriously, why didn’t I make this my New Year’s Resolution instead of going to bed earlier?), I recently went to the Circleville Pumpkin Show. Circleville is about 45 minutes or so outside of Columbus, so not too far. Think of it as a fair or carnival type setting where everything revolves around pumpkins. And the food? ALL PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! Seriously, it was spectacular! I used to go as a very young child, with my family, but my friend Shannen and I went this year and we were not disappointed!

So check out some of the sights from our trip. I ate pumpkin flavored foods until I could eats no more! And then I took a pumpkin brownie home for later! I will be going back next year for more!

My only gripe was that the show runs Wednesday through Saturday. That’s nice for the really local folks, but I just don’t understand why Sunday isn’t included. Folks who work during the week only have 1 day to try and visit. And if they’re obsessed with football (like I am), the trip will come after the game is over. Small window. Work with us. We live in the heart of Buckeye Nation. Just something to think about…

Slice of Columbus 2012

In my increasing effort to get out and experience more of the really cool events that my hometown has to offer (Why didn’t I make this my New Year’s Resolution?), I hit up the annual “Slice of Columbus” charity event. The best pizza vendors in the city set up booths, and for $12 it’s all you can eat pizza to benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Win-win, right?

I was planning on going last year, but a certain controversial R&B singer was doing a show in Cincinnati, and I attended that instead. This year, I made it to Slice, with my brother, and we feasted y’all!

I discovered a number of new pizza places I’d never heard of. I even solicited recommendations, via Twitter, as to what I should check out. There were 15 vendors on hand, and we all know there’s no way I could fit a minimum of 15 slices of pizza in my stomach. There were 2 places I’d already sampled before, so I skipped them. All in all, my Top 3 were:

1. Little Sicily’s
2. Shirky’s Pizza Zone
3. Romeo’s Pizza

We got to vote on which pizza we thought was the best and for the 4th year in a row, Romeo’s won People’s Choice. I can’t complain. It was delicious. I even think I might be able to talk my Dad into trying it. That’s huge! These pizza places will now be added to a list that includes La Rosa’s, from the Greater Cincinnati area. Whenever I’m down there, I make it a point to stop in and enjoy some pizza pie!

The turnout at Slice of Columbus was fantastic! It was a beautiful day with nothing but blue skies over downtown Columbus. In addition to the pizza, there was a live band playing as well as Dairy Queen desserts and adult beverages. They even had some some activities and rides set of for the kids. Smart!

But I think what surprised me the most was the fact they were handing out large pizza boxes and letting folks go through lines and fill them up! Yes, it was all-you-can-eat, but apparently it was also “all you can fit in this box and carry home!” Seriously, if you’re anywhere near Central Ohio in mid-September, put this event on your list!
