Battle of the Grocery Apps!

So, I thought I was all settled with GroceryIQ on my iPhone. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it was an enjoyable experience! While, there are a couple of features I’m DYING to have, I thought I’d found my Holy Grail shopping app.

But that was before I found Groceries by Sophiestication. Sophie, the creator, used to be part of the Tap Tap Tap company that brought us the super-popular and successful Tipulator, a tip calculator app. So you know she knows her stuff!

Before I bought GroceryIQ, I had read about Sophie’s upcoming app, on other App blogs. It seems it was promised to be coming a long time ago, so I thought it’d be a while before she launched. WRONG!

Groceries hit the App store a couple of days ago and upon reading her description, I was intrigued enough to try it out! The UI is breathtaking and well thought out, and Groceries allows you to have multiple lists. That is the one thing I wanted GroceryIQ to provide, but isn’t there yet. They’ve been saying that “it’s coming soon!” for a long time, so I started to look elsewhere.

First Run with GroceryIQ

An old fashioned grocery listAbout 10 days ago, I purchased GroceryIQ, an iPhone shopping app with an emphasis on making your trip to the grocery store much easier and faster.

One of the features that made this app a must-buy to me is the abilities to rearrange aisles to match the layout of your particular store. Now, while I would like to be able to add other stores (lists) and their layouts to the app, it’s not a deal breaker. Plus, that feature is said to be coming soon in a future update.

I also like how there are actual brands and products built into this app. I don’t just want bread, milk, and juice. If I wanted it to be that simple, I’d just use the built in Notes app. I go to the store looking for specifics, like my beloved POM juice, and I want that on my list. This from a product database that is 130k+ in size. After typing just 3 letters, GroceryIQ populates a list of products with matching letters, including my Pomegranate juice of choice and flavor.

I can also add items to my “Favorites” list, as well as email my list to others. I can’t see myself ever doing this, but it’s nice to have options, right?
