This Is A LeBron James Post

LeBron Gives Back

I’m going to talk about LeBron James for a minute, and there is not going to be a drop of slander in this post. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about that man on this topic, and neither can you. So, cut the crap and check out the good work this man has done.

Despite the running joke that he hates Ohio, LeBron does nothing but put on for his hometown (and state) at every possible moment he can. This was largely on display over the weekend.

King James went back to his alma mater, Akron St. Vincent St. Mary, and helped them reveal new athletics program uniforms that he donated the money for! And he wasn’t just there, he also modeled the new football uniforms! How awesome is that?!

Also, I don’t know if most people are aware that LeBron was an elite prep WR recruit in high school as well. Being the freak of nature athlete that he is, that really shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The money he donated outfits all of the sports at SVSM, not just football. And on top of that, he donated another $1M to renovate the basketball gym. When it’s finished, it will be renamed LeBron James Arena.

LeBron is not obligated to do anything like that. He doesn’t have to stay involved to that extent. Hell, he could just cut a check and let that be the end of it. But nooooooo. LeBron takes time out of his schedule to be a part of the reveal. He wants to show his community how much they mean to him, and how much a part of him Akron still is. Respect.

You know those students got their lives from his appearance. A certain Ohio State football commit certainly did! That had to be a really amazing experience for them.

Way to go, Bron. Keep doing you!

How Bandwagon Fans & Diva Players Ruined The NBA For Me

All aboard...

I grew up playing basketball. Everyone in my family did, to a point. My Uncle even played and coached in the NBA. Up until last year. I grew up on Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Isiah Thomas. Those guys. I was alive and old enough to remember the Dream Team. That was the brand of NBA I liked. Sure there were superstars, but people were fans of the teams first and foremost.

Fast forward 20 years and it’s allllll about the superstars. And, at this point, it’s pretty much an NBA thing, because I don’t see what irks me going on in baseball or football.

People can like whomever they want, but I respect those who are fans a team through its failures, its history, and its success far more than these new-age fans who really only care about the stats of their superstar and whichever team they happy to play for at the moment. Case in point, Miami Heat fans, Oklahoma City Thunder fans, and earlier this year, Los Angeles Clippers fans. I’ve really never seen anything like it, and hope other sports fans are able to keep their integrity a little better.

When Peyton Manning announced he was signing with the Denver Broncos, there weren’t a ton of Indianapolis Colts fans saying “Oh shit! I’m #TeamBroncos now!”, were there? No. Most of the ones I came across on Twitter stated that they’d always be fans of his, wished him well, and continued to pledge their allegiance to the Colts. I love and respect that.

Best Part of the Cavs/Lakers Game

I know I tweeted the hell out of my followers on Thursday from the Cavs/Lakers game in Cleveland, but there was one point in the game where I thought the place would explode. And no, it wasn’t when they showed Lil’ Wayne on the jumbotron.

It was very late in the game, with about 24 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Cavs were up 2 points and coming back from a TV time out. The sound guy put on the Eminem verse from “Forever” — a song by Drake feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Eminem, that appears on LeBron’s movie soundtrack — on the loudspeaker as the teams returned from the timeout. To say King James was fired up was an understatement. He was rapping along to the song and the crowd got on their feet! It was soooo loud! Very cool moment that made its way to YouTube:

Clearly, LeBron wins at life.

I do have a couple of pics I took during the game. They’re coming later…

Someone Send Ray Allen Some Cheese

He needs a large helping of it to go along with all that whine he served up the other day.

I’ve been meaning to write about this, but I’ve been busy with Easter, lost iPhone photos, and tax preparation. You know, life.

The Boston Celtics seemed to have forgotten to board the plane to C-Town in order to play the Cavs on Easter Sunday. I mean that’s the only explanation I can think of for them getting destroyed the way they did. The Cavs beat down the defending NBA Champs 107-76. Yes, that score is correct. The Cavs won by 31 points. And, as is the case whenever the Cavs are up big, King James takes a seat on the bench, and provides entertainment for the crowd and cheerleading support for his teammates.

Fun Times in C-Town

Fun Times in C-Town

I’ve never seen a player have that much fun on the bench! I have noticed that LeBron has been like this all season when the Cavs are up big. These are the spoils when your team is doing well. He’s an animated guy that enjoys his job. He always puts on a show for the home crowd and they love him for that.

However, Celtics player Ray Allen took exception to the antics of LBJ and the Cavs bench on Sunday. He complained to the media after the game:

“I’m always going to remember that. If I beat a team, as happy as I may be in victory, I’m always going to stay humble and always remember that there’s another day. We play each other too much. Those are great motivational thoughts for me.”

Really Ray? Please STFD and STFU. Who are you to tell the Cavs how they should act? If the roles were reversed, I’m not so certain you and your teammates wouldn’t be acting the fool on the bench. And maybe if y’all had played like the champions that you are, none of this would have happened. If you have a problem with how the other team acts on their bench, and in their house, why not try playing a little ball and shut them up? Bitching to the media is weak sauce. LeBron agrees:

“We’re not trying to disrespect any team or show up any team. We’re all professionals. If you take it as disrespectful, then you got to do something about it.”

And to drive my point home, I’ll quote one of my all-time favorite movies, Friday.

“Remember it! Write it down! Take a picture! I don’t give a f*ck!”

So, yea. Go ahead and “remember that”, Ray. Maybe the next time y’all play the Cavs, your team will remember how to play defense and shoot baskets. You know, the fundamentals that help you win games.

FWIW, I think the Celtics will once again be the team from the Eastern Conference that makes it to the NBA Finals. Once KG gets back and is healthy, they’ll be back to form. But this time, I think the Lakers take the title. So, I didn’t write this post because I don’t like the Celtics. I wrote this because I can’t stand grown men who are crybabies.
