Dear Makeup Brands: Please Stop Ignoring Women of Color

Ok, I’ve been stewing over this issue for a while now, just waiting to be proven wrong. Alas, that hasn’t happened, and so I write this post. I haven’t really ranted in a while. It’s time.

With the revealing of the Spring 2013 lines, I’ve been anxiously looking forward to trying everything I can get my hands on. I’ve been experimenting with some concealers and both L’Oreal and Revlon have new products out. L’Oreal is capitalizing off the major trend to put just about everything into a jump pen/crayon form. And so we now have True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer. And Revlon reformulated their Colorstay Concealer.

Reading the press releases had me excited to try these, only to get to the store and see that apparently neither L’Oreal nor Revlon give a damn for darker skinned women who may want to conceal blemishes. I’m not even that dark. I think I’m probably in the middle of the brown-skinned spectrum. It’s like they both made shades dark enough for spokeswomen Beyonce and Halle Berry, and that’s as deep as they were going to go. Both call their darkest shade Medium-Deep and neither of those women are “dark.”

Kneejerk: L’Oreal Le Rouge Lipstick

L'Oreal Le Rouge in Molten Caramel

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done any sort of makeup review on here. Well, that’s no more! I decided to pick up a tube of L’Oreal’s new Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick. I don’t usually gravitate towards L’Oreal lipcolors, but Gwen Stefani can be quite convincing! Tonight, I picked up the shade, Molten Caramel for my quick testing purposes. It seems like it would be pretty neutral on me, so that’s why I went with it instead of a shade with the words plum or raisin (even though they always work with my skintone).

Putting it on was extremely pleasant. It went on very smoothly and felt creamy; major plus! As others have noted, there’s no offending scent either. That’s not a major deal to me, but I know it’s a sticking point for others. So, if you’re wary of how other L’Oreal lip products smell, have no fear for Le Rouge does not fall into that category!

CVS BOGO: L’Oreal HiP Products

CVS BOGO ALERT!

Another quick post to inform that CVS is having another L’Oreal HiP BOGO this week. I’m not sure if it’s nationwide or not, but it was in my local Sunday flier, so your mileage may vary.

I haven’t been back to CVS in a few weeks, but the last couple of times I was there, I still didn’t see the new HiP Kohl Eyeliner there. That’s what I’d be picking up on a BOGO, if anything!

Anyway, just spreading the word. Gotta save that $$ whenever possible these days!

Loving HiP’s Kohl Eyeliner (Updated)

I picked up this product ( first in navy, then later in black) and I think it’s a keeper!

I’ve never been able to successfully apply liner to my waterline with any product or method until this Kohl Eyeliner entered my life.

It was easy and painless too! I’ll update this post later with a little more detail.

ETA: I promised more to this post — because I was posting from my iPhone — and here it is! I watched some YouTube vids on how to apply this product. I hadn’t ever tried an eyeliner that was in powder form, so I was curious. In particular, I was intrigued by the “traditional” method, where you put the applicator on your waterline, close your eye, and pull the wand through. That’s what I wanted to try first.

CVS is Sneaky!

CVS BOGO ALERT!But let me tell you why! I posted yesterday about possibly checking out that new L’Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliner. I also added a little note onto the end and pointed out that CVS is doing a BOGO this week on HiP products.

I thought this was a perfect storm because I still have bonus Extra Care discounts and coupons for HiP products! And it would have been had CVS actually had these new HiP products in stock! I went to 2 different CVS stores and neither had the eyeliner or color presso available.

I ended up going to Target Boutique and there it was in its own special display. Couple that with seeing it at a grocery store yesterday, and I’m pretty sure that CVS is holding out on debuting this item until AFTER their HiP BOGO week is up. They probably think they’ll lose a lot of money since it’s a new product and they want customers to buy each and every tube without any freebies.

It’s a shame, though. I was salivating at the thought of getting a BOGO deal on this product. It could just be the greater Columbus area, but I doubt it. Has anyone seen these new HiP products at a CVS?
