Review: Milani Color Statement Lipsticks

My Milani Color Statement Lipstick Collection... So Far

Last month I shared that I had won a Twitter contest that saw me receive 4 Milani Color Statement lipsticks and a lip liner. It was great luck as I had heard a lot of good things about the product and was wanting to try it anyway. So, this was the perfect opportunity!

The day I got my lippies, I slapped one of those suckas on my lips, the second I got back inside after gathering the mail. My kneejerk response was that I really liked them. But I wanted to give it a little more attention and wear than that.

So, since then, I’ve been rotating through them, and I’ve even bought a few more. (Y’all know I have a serious makeup hoarding problem, right?) So, now my collection is shades strong. I own Bronze Beauty, Best Red, Black Cherry, Flirty Fuchsia (the ones I won), as well as Flamingo Pose, Orange-Gina, Sweet Nectar, and Uptown Mauve. I wore Uptown Mauve today.

These lipsticks are extremely pigmented. One swipe and you have a lot of color already on your lips. I love that! They last a good amount of time, too. I didn’t ever time it, or anything, but a very long time considering it’s not marketed as a “long wear” lipstick, and doesn’t have the texture of one, either. It feels light and creamy, even though some of the shades are strictly matte or shimmery.

I don’t feel these dry your lips out; instead they sort of feel moisturizing. Basically, the formula is a winner. I didn’t notice any feathering, and it didn’t draw extra attention to fine lines or dryness on your lips. (As a general rule, I like to keep my lips nice and exfoliated whenever I use lipstick, so I can’t expand very much) And when the vibrancy of the color begins to fade, it leaves behind a very nice and natural stain on your lips. I had Uptown Mauve on most of the afternoon and evening today. I even worked out, showered, and ate spaghetti with it on. I call that quite a test!

Knee Jerk: Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick

20130111-001900.jpg

It may be the dead of winter here in Ohio, but that just means that the Spring 2013 makeup lines are about to start popping up. On my trip to the grocery store this evening, I spotted some. And, of course, I ended up buying a few things. I shall call it a mini-haul with a few new items from Neutrogena, Cover Girl, and L’Oreal.

In this quick “knee jerk” review, I’m gonna share my thoughts on Neutrogena’s new lip product, MoistureSmooth Color Stick. It seems, after Clinique’s Chubby Sticks took off in Fall 2011, the drug stores brands all rushed to make their own version. For some reason, I didn’t do a review on the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, but I was, and still am obsessed with them. How obsessed? I own every shade except the 2 lightest. (They wouldn’t show up on my lips, so why bother?) I keep Romance in my purse, in case I need a pop of color.

Here’s what Neutrogena says:

NEUTROGENA® MoistureSmooth Color Sticks instantly moisturize lips, while continuously conditioning them so they are softer and smoother in just 3 days with nothing on them. Made with fruit extracts along with mango and shea butter, the balm-like formula glides on easily, providing a sheer wash of moisturizing color that lasts for hours. In addition, the twist up package allows for perfect application each time – with no sharpener needed.

My Revlon Lip Butters Collection…

…is nearly complete! I’m still on the hunt for Red Velvet, then I think I’ll be finished. Below are the shades that I own!

I wear this product, at some point in the day, every day. I really do treat it like a chapstick and my lips are in great shape as the temperatures start to dip down into the 30s.

With the exception of Tutti Frutti, the shades I own are very pigmented. They would very well, IMO, on women of color. I might have to swatch my collection because all of the swatches I saw, prior to purchase, were only on fair-skinned women. Not such a great indicator for WOC lol. Luckily, I happened to choose well! Generally, I go for the bolder colors, as a rule of thumb. It worked out for this product as well.

Another Backup Option for iPhone Users

DataDeposit

I was scrolling through the “Changes” tab of Cydia today and saw a new app, titled DataDeposit.

It claims to backup your iOS app “save data” to Dropbox. Think about if you play Angry Birds and you’re really, really good. But then your iPhone craps out on you or you unknowingly update to the latest firmware. iTunes loads all your apps back on your iPhone, but not your awesome high scores! This is where DataDeposit steps in. (Jailbroken phones only) I’m not a gamer, but there are other apps I wish I could easily save the data from.

Tweetbot: My Review

As a self-confessed Twitter app addict, I of course, jumped at the opportunity to check out a new offering. This was especially true, given the hype from beta testers as well as the reputation of the devs.

I’m talking about Tweetbot, by Tapbots, if you haven’t heard.

After opening the app & putting in my Twitter login credentials, my first impression was “damn, this is a beautifully designed app!”. It’s clear a lot of thought was put into the the UI design and I appreciate it. Previously, I thought Twitterrific was the prettiest iPhone Twitter app. No more. Tweetbot now wears the crown!

I read the MacStories review before I even downloaded the app, so I knew the little intricacies beforehand. Long read, but extremely helpful!

I’m not going to go into detail, but I will give a list of things I did & did not like about Tweetbot. At the end, I’ll tell you if it’s my HG Twitter app, which earns a spot on the dock.
