Sammy Prahalis Drafted 6th Overall; Headed to Phoenix

I shocked the world when I posted that WNBA post last week. Yes, the entire world. Well, I hope y’all are ready because I’m going to do it again! It’s follow-up time!

The WNBA Draft was held Monday afternoon, and my girl, Sammy Prahalis, was the 6th selection by the Phoenix Mercury. And she looked fab!

I am definitely jealous Phoenix fans right now. While I’ve been spoiled by easily being able to see Sammy play, they are now get to enjoy the massive swagger of Styles P for the forseeable future. Enjoy it!

P.S. A friend and I have already circled the date when the Mercury head to the Midwest and play the Indiana Fever. Don’t be surprised if we make that short road trip to Indy to check her out.

P.P.S. Check out the highlight video she just uploaded. You’ll understand why I love what she brings to the women’s game.

This Is A WNBA Post

2012 WNBA Draft

I know, I know. Don’t fall over in shock. You read that right. I am here, today, to talk about the WNBA. And why? Because my favorite women’s college hoops players is draft eligible and I plan on following/supporting her career where she is drafted.

I am talking about Sammy Prahalis, of course. Y’all know I stan for her.

Ideally, I’d like for the LA Sparks to draft her. Why?

1. They have Candace Parker already, whom I’ve loved for years.

2. They drafted Sammy’s former Ohio State teammate, Jantel Lavender, last year. Reuniting those two, would be something I’d truly enjoy. They already have tons of on-court chemistry.

3. I watched enough Sparks games to know that that team is in dire need of a point guard. Sammy would be perfect!

But, the Sparks have the first pick, and Sammy isn’t home run pick for the overall lottery pick. That honor likely goes to Stanford’s Nnemkadi Ogwumike. Will Sammy still be available the next time the Sparks pick? I doubt it, but trades happen all the time. She could honestly go anywhere from #2 to #15.

All I really want is to be able to go see Sammy play, in person, from time to time. Preferably when/if her team plays the Indiana Fever. I would also die if she ended up rejoining Team USA and represent our country in International tourneys.

The 2012 WNBA Draft takes place on April 16th @ 2:00 PM (ET). You can watch Round 1 on ESPN2, while the 2nd and 3rd rounds will air on ESPNU and NBA TV. (ESPN3 is an option as well)

So, good luck to Sammy!

Ask and Ye Shall Receive…

Lately, I’m getting a whole lot of referral hits from people searching “samantha prahalis boyfriend” via their search engine of choice.

Their searches led them to this post, where all I did was mention the fact in passing. But that was really a post dedicated to the awesomeness that is Sammy Prahalis and her hoops skillz. What you’re reading now is all about the couple!

I’m guessing a lot of people are getting more interested in the adorable couple. And if you’re here looking for info, I’ll just come out and stay that Evan Turner, the soon-to-be NCAA Men’s POY ( 😉 ) is Samantha Prahalis’ boyfriend.

ESPN cut to ET about fiftyeleven times during today’s Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship game. It seemed that possibly the camera crew knew what was up, but the announcers sure as hell didn’t.

Now, this is ESPN we’re talking about. They are very TMZ-like with their sports coverage. Remember how many times we got to see Colt McCoy’s now fiancée during Texas football games, and Tim Tebow’s parents during Florida’s games? If they’d have known that Evan and Sammy were a couple, they so would have run that storyline into the ground during the telecast. You know they would!

So I got a good laugh out of that this afternoon!

But back to the happy couple — since Google sent you here and all — Here’s what you need to know. They are both awesome basketball players for The Ohio State University. Both rock the #21 jersey. And if you’re curious, both have Twitter accounts. [Evan’s Twitter, Sammy’s Twitter]

Want more? Local TV station, ABC6, has a video interview w/ the couple (separately) that you might like.

ETA: Small update for late 2010. Even though they don’t really talk about their private lives, it at least appears the couple is still together even w/ Evan now playing in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers and Sammy remaining at Ohio State for her junior season. She flew into Philly for a night to see Evan’s 1st home game as a Sixer (also his 22nd birthday). I really hope they are still together. Imagine the next generation of bball player OSU could get? Ha!

Last Update: They broke up in December 2010. No more updates here, lol

The Game in Pictures: Ohio State vs. Indiana (Women)

My aunt got me tickets to the Ohio State women’s basketball game vs. Indiana for my birthday. I brought my dad along and we watched the Lady Buckeyes beat up on the Hoosiers, 81-64.

Sammy Prahalis is by far the best women’s point guard I’ve seen. She plays like a dude, for real. So much swagger. And can’t nobody do no-look passes like this girl. She’s a breath of fresh air to the sport and one can only hope there are more like her out there!

It was the first women’s game I’ve been to in I don’t know when, as well as the first time I got to use my new super-zoom digital camera at a sporting event. I wanted to see how it does in a basketball arena before I head up to Cleveland to see LeBron v. Kobe later this week. (I think I’m still going anyway lol). I also plan on using this camera for swimming meet candids as well as when I go into Ohio State football events.

I was quite pleased with my pictures! I wasn’t far away, but I also wasn’t in the nose-bleeds either. And I came away with what I consider to be nice pictures. I had planned to take a shot with no zoom to show where my seats were, but naturally I forgot.
