She's Baaaaaack!

She's Baaaaaack!

As a figure skating fan, I can’t tell you how psyched I was to learn that Sasha Cohen is officially making her return to the world figure skating ranks!

US Figure Skating has somewhat fallen upon hard times. Poor Kimmie Meissner peaked with a World Championship title back in 2006 and has struggled since. The youth movement in the US was in full effect last year, but none of them hold the consistency needed to be a force on the international stage. Growth spurts, injuries, and nerves probably all played a part. In the meantime, the Japanese have taken over! They are such a joy to watch, but it’s sad to see the Americans not challenging for the podium anymore. Maybe that’s where Sasha comes in?

She still has the same body frame she always has, which is a distinct advantage in the sport. When you are petite, those complex jumps are much easier to do. And it’s not like she’s rusty. Sasha has been a fixture on the Stars on Ice skating tour. She’s filed her paperwork with US Figure Skating with her sights set on fall Grand Prix competitions. Ultimately, she hopes to qualify for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Welcome back, Sasha! Can’t wait to see you skate come fall!
