Even Twitter Knows Its Platform Makes TV More Fun

I simply refuse to watch big TV events without being logged onto Twitter. The commentary, slander, and memes are priceless. I get my life each and every time, without fail! And after a big sporting event, ridiculous show, or awards show, I always wonder, aloud, how we ever watched TV before the invention of Twitter.

I know people were spread out over various message boards and what not, but it’s just not the same. Twitter is better. You’re literally viewing with the world in some cases! Instant feedback and a million different opinions and perspectives. It’s amazing!

And now it’s being reported that Twitter is testing a “Trending TV topics” feature for the platform. I think that’s brilliant. Before, trending topics, related to TV just appeared in your regular or tailored trending lists. If you were in an app, you’d need to visit that section of your app to see the topics. With this new feature (if Twitter’s official apps) it’ll turn up in your main timeline.

According to Mashable:

Trending shows appear as Twitter cards located at the top of your timeline, along with information and top tweets about the programming.

And TechCrunch adds the following:

“Once you refresh, the trending box shows up. However, when you start scrolling the box flows down with your timeline. Over time, or when an insane number of tweets come out about the show, the box goes back to the top.”

I typically already know when/why certain TV events are trending. A lot of the time I’m a part of it! When the SyFy’s Sharknado almost broke Twitter, my followers were already alllll over it! So, while I think this is a great idea, I hope Twitter is making the TL integration optional. I can see where some people would be annoyed by it appearing at the top of their timelines. And it will probably be used by advertisers trying to reach a larger audience.

This feature, as long as it’s limited to mobile platforms, really doesn’t affect me anyway. I don’t use any of Twitter’s official apps. I prefer Tapbots’ Tweetbot because it has a comprehensive muting functionality that I need to maintain my sanity on Twitter.

I’ll continue to tweet during big TV events. It’s too fun to miss out one. But what do y’all think about Twitter potentially messing with your main TL?

The Upcoming Launch of ‘Fox Sports 1’ Intrigues Me

Fox Sports 1

I’ve been saying for a while that ESPN needs some major network competition. I’m really sick of 90% of what that network is all about and stands for. I was glad to hear that FOX was launching their own 24/7 sports network, but I wasn’t about to hold my breath. I’m still not, but I’ve been following their hires and the news leading up to the debut anyway. Basically, my expectations for the network are incredibly low, that way, if it actually ends up being a success, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. It’s a self-defense mechanism and it works for me somehow.

My ears perked up when I heard Fox Sports 1 had hired Andy Roddick. I love that guy. I think his personality will be great for sports media. At least I hope it is. I’m sure he’ll be rusty to start things off, but most analysts and personalities are.

I rolled my eyes when they announced they hired one of college football’s greatest trolls in Clay Travis. Really, guys? You couldn’t find anyone credible? You had to hire on a TMZ-esque wannabe Mark May? Good job. Good effort.

But FS1 really got my attention when I learned they hired Michelle Kwan for their 2014 Olympic coverage. Slam dunk, y’all! Michelle Kwan is everything, I tell you. EVERYTHING! As a fan of figure skating, I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table! They’re going to have her do more human interest and fluff pieces, rather than standard reporting, as I understand it, but I’m still happy about the move. I’m an Olympics junkie (more for the Summer Games than the Winter Games), so FS1 gives an e-high five from me.

I’ll be watching the launch when it takes place in 2 weeks. Even if the network doesn’t end up being a hit, it’s shiny and brand new right now. Sports fans like just about everything when it’s shiny and brand new. So, let the games begin!

New TV Obsession: Orange Is The New Black

It took me longer to join the bandwagon, but let me tell y’all, that I am allllllll the way on board right now! Hello! I am completely obsessed with Netflix’s breakout hit Orange Is The New Black!

I watched all 13 episodes in a 24 hour period and I cannot believe how long we all have to wait for Season 2! I guess I should just be thankful that there is actually going to be a Season 2, but nah. I’m going to go ahead and complain about the wait anyway.

I really adore the cast of OITNB. I think Taystee and Poussey are my favorites. Piper annoys me like none other, which is funny because it’s her story. But sometimes it be’s like that. I love Laura Prepon, but not as Alex Vause. I love her as Donna on That 70s Show.

Pennsatucky, brought to life by Taryn Manning, is the best acting job in the cast. Man, does she sell that brand of crazy, or what?! And we all know that she isn’t dead, after that cliff hanger, because she’s been bumped up to full-time series regular. Ahhh! I have so many questions!

I’m thisclose to buying the book because I have questions. I know that book Larry and Pennsatucky are very different from TV Larry and Pennsatucky, but I don’t care! I must know what happens!

Is anyone else as obsessed with Orange Is The New Black? Who are your favorite characters?

Cougar Town is Back… In January!

Cougar Town makes its switch to TBS for the upcoming season. The bad news is that that premiere doesn’t take place until January 8th, 2013. It’s not ideal, but I’ll take a mid-season replacement slot over cancellation. Above is a video for those TBS viewers who may not already be familiar (or, in my case, obsessed) with the show. PENNY CAN!

You can keep up with the show on Facebook at

I absolutely love the cul-de-sac crew and I hope TBS gives them more of a shot than they did my beloved “My Boys.” Yes, I’m still bitter about that.

Glee’s Michael Jackson Episode Was Fun!

Glee's Michael Jackson Episode

I’ve been a fan of Michael Jackson’s music my entire life. My parents own the vinyl of Off The Wall and sitting together, listening to it, is one of my fondest childhood memories.

So, good or bad, I was going to enjoy the Michael Jackson Glee episode. After all, I was already a fan of the show! But I also noticed that a lot of people, who don’t usually watch, tuned in. ‘Tis the power of MJ’s music!

Various members of the cast performed favorites like “Bad”, “Black or White”, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, and “Human Nature”. But I think my favorite performance was Santana (Naya Rivera) and Sebastian (Grant Gustin) performing “Smooth Criminal” with the guys from 2Cellos. I’m a former orchestra nerd, so I loved the acoustic performance, accompanied by nothing but cellos. Also my brother still plays the cello, and he directed me to their own music video performance. Awesome, right? Just bought it on iTunes as well.

And speaking of iTunes, that version of “Smooth Criminal” is currently flying high on the Top 10 chart (and rising)!

I don’t always like when they do “theme” episodes because, in the past, they’ve detracted from the show’s storyline, but I thought they integrated this one rather well. And it’s prompted me to add even more Michael Jackson hits to my iPod. Thanks, Glee!

By the way, if you’re interested in the guys from 2CELLO, visit their official website for more information!
