My 2010 Fitness Journey: Part 4, TurboFire

I’ve told you all about the beginning steps of 2010 fitness journey: setting a routing, phase 1 with Turbo Jam, and phase 2 with ChaLEAN Extreme. The final step in this 9 month journey has been TurboFire, Chalene Johnson’s latest cardio and kick-boxing inspired workout.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m a Turbo Jam addict. When I first ordered TJ from QVC back in the day, after watching a special informercial, I was sooooo excited! As I’ve said before, I had been doing Firm workouts. And while I was happy to be doing something, I wasn’t exactly getting results. Turbo Jam changed that, plus it was so much more fun! It didn’t, and still doesn’t, feel like work.

TurboFire is the same way! I think of it as Turbo Jam on steroids! It is intense and definitely not a beginner’s workout, although there is a modifier to help you out. I would recommend tackling Turbo Jam before TurboFire, so you can familiarize yourself with the choreography, unless you just can’t wait and want the challenge right away! Can’t fault you for that! As much as I love Turbo Jam, I love TurboFire all that much more!

My 2010 Fitness Journey: Part 1

It’s been quite the year so far, and I wanted to sum it up with you all as the New Year approaches and we start setting new fitness goals. I may have mentioned my situation in passing, but I wanted there to make sure I detail it here in case anyone was wondering. (Don’t front like you’re not curious!)

So, we went through the painful experience of getting our basement finished. It looks really awesome now, but the situation was less than ideal at the same time. I’ve mentioned before that I tend to slack off in the fall (AKA football season; your girl is obsessed!!!), then come back with a vengeance in mid-late December or January. The problem, last year, was that we started the basement renovation in January. So, after having taken September through December off, my usual start time was pushed back 3 more months!

A little background on my body type. I’m 5’8″ and I’m thin; always have been. And when I gain weight, you really can’t tell. (Thanks, Mom & Dad!) It usually collects in my mid section, which isn’t a big deal because the months that it builds up are months that I’m covered in sweaters because it’s cold out! *glares at Mother Nature*

But I don’t want you to think that fitting into pants is the only reason I workout. I love the rush too! When you finish and are dripping & pouring w/ sweat is one of the best feelings in the world! It gives you a ton of energy and puts you in a great mood! I understand that isn’t the case for everyone, but it is for me and if you try and change your mindset, you may find that helps!

Transitioning to a Size 4

I know they say that when you work out, progress should be measured with inches and how your clothes fit. I was always like “yea, yea, yea” about that until recently.

I don’t work out to lose weight. If I lost much, I’d prolly be underweight! My goal with working out was to get toned, fit, and develop healthy habits to continue in my life.

I do occasionally weigh myself, but only like once or twice a month. I’ve been a solid 130 for I don’t know how long. Throughout that time, I have been seeing muscle definition, which I love! And we’ve been told over and over that muscle’s density is higher than fat, thus weighing more.

I was sort of in between sizes 4 and 6 last year. In some stores, I was a solid 6, while in others I was a 4. I’ve been wearing some of those 6s and they are loose! Not loose as in I can’t wear them anymore, but there is quite a bit of extra space in there that wasn’t there last year! And now my 4’s fit like my 6’s did last year.

So, it looks next time I go to the mall for new clothes (which could be a while, lol) I’ll be purchasing a smaller size!
