Workout Throwback: Tamilee Webb’s “I Want That Body”

I Want THAT Body

I’ve been doing a TurboFire/ChaLEAN Extreme hybrid workout program since I decided I wasn’t quite ready/willing to do P90x.

Part of the workout schedule includes ab work. Duh. Most of the ab workouts Chalene included in TurboFire and ChaLEAN Extreme are fine, but one of them, Abs 10, makes my neck/back hurt no matter how I modify the moves. I’m not the biggest fan of floor ab work anyway unless it’s really creative.

So, as a substitute, I reached for an old friend, Tamilee Webb’s “I Want That Body” DVD. Most know her as the “Buns of Steel” girl. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. And as I recalled, the abs track is crazy good!

I was feeling cocky, so I decided to do the the Level 2 workout of the Abs program. And it all came rushing back to me! It’s a tough, tough, tough workout and it hurt so good!

It All Makes Sense Now!

I didn’t really get it until today. There was a chill in the air, and I really didn’t feel like getting out of bed. I decided I’d push my daily workout until later in the day; perhaps the old late night slot I used to occupy at 10 or 11:30 (after the news).

The change in the weather just had me not feeling it, and that’s when it dawned on me that this is usually the time when I fall off the workout bandwagon each year!

I’ve already blogged about fighting the late summer workout slump, and that’s what I’m doing now. I’m just now beginning Month 3 of Beach Body’s TurboFire program, and have a nice routine going. Each day it gets colder. And each day it gets darker a little sooner. Once we switch over to standard time, my fall depression will be in full effect! Fall is definitely trying to throw a wrench in my plans!

So now that I’m aware of Mother Nature/Earth’s plot to throw me off my schedule, I’m more equipped to fight it. I may not always do the workout that’s on the schedule, but I’m gonna do something; and that’s the key. Get moving and do something every day! There are several options for the days I’m not in the mood (even shorter ones via TurboFire, Turbo Jam, & ChaLEAN Extreme), so I’ll be good. I just have to keep telling myself: you gotta do something today, Suz!

Fighting the “Late Summer Slump”

It happens to me every year.

I rock the shit out of my workout schedule from January through the end of July, and then August happens.

I’m not sure if it’s the weather or just a sense of satisfaction in accomplishing my fitness/body goals, but with August comes maaaaaajor slackage in my fitness routine. Usually, all I do is Couch to 5k training and running a 5k. And those workouts are only 3 times a week. No weight training. No ab work. No stretching. No pilates/ballet/yoga.

Then, come September, the c25k runs get even less infrequent. Maybe once a week, if the weather cooperates (which it rarely does). By the time October rolls around, I am doing absolutely nothing and remain rather idle until late December or early January, when I start all over again.

This year I’ve vowed to break the trend of late summer slacking. Conveniently, I ended my second round of ChaLEAN Extreme at the end of July, so that left me open to a new routine, beginning in August. I stuck with Chalene and chose TurboFire. I am a big CJ fan and have thoroughly enjoyed both Turbo Jam and ChaLEAN Extreme, so I figured I’d give TurboFire a try.

How Should I Recover?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I want to incorporate a recovery drink, snack, or bar into my post-workout routine.

As it stands now, I work out right before dinner. I literally get out of the shower and sit down at the dinner table. I don’t really like that set-up.

I mentioned on Twitter that I want to move up my workout hour to 5PM-ish so that I can be all showered before the news starts. This would allow me a few hours before dinner, so getting in some form of recovery would be preferable. I want to start complimenting all the hard work I do by refueling properly.

I’ve tried Muscle Milk before. I’ve also tried Luna Bars. I’ve also seen various lists of post-workout snacks. I’m sure the “best” method is different for everyone, but I’m not sure where I should even begin.

Any suggestions?

Starting ChaLEAN Extreme, Need a Favor

Since it’s after midnight, I can now say “today”, right?

I want to start ChaLean Extreme today, but I have a teeny, tiny dilemna. Allow me to explain:

I had a friend who initially tried the program and it just wasn’t for her. Being the amazing individual that I am, I agreed to take it off her hands. I know. I’m so awesome.

Anyway, she sent me the DVD’s, but not the reading materials that came with it. Can’t find them. So, I don’t know what workouts I should be doing on which days, when I should rest, and all that other good stuff.

I guess I could just guess that I’ll be starting with the Burn Band Basics and then Phase 1 stuff, but I don’t really want to guess. I want to do this right. Can anyone help me with that? Are they available online anywhere? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
